Notes
Carroll gives the place of writing as "Ch. Ch. Oxford," using his characteristic abbreviation for Christ Church.
Signed "C.L. Dodgson (Lewis Carroll)."
Scott has added a note in pencil on the back of the letter, possibly a draft response. In the note, he says that he did not receive Volume I of Sylvie and Bruno because of a problem with the address (he has lived at 52 Lincoln's Inn Fields for ten years, and the book was sent to another address, possibly the office of The Theatre); he adds "it will charm me to receive his beautiful books."
This item is part of the Arthur A. Houghton, Jr., Lewis Carroll collection. The large collection includes printed books, letters, manuscripts, puzzles and games, personal effects and ephemera, which have been cataloged separately.
Removed from the "Carrolliana" album (MA 6347) assembled by Arthur A. Houghton, Jr., folio 43.
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson adopted the pseudonym "Lewis Carroll" in 1856 when publishing a poem in "The Train." He used the pseudonym when publishing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and other works, but wrote under his given name, Charles Dodgson, when publishing mathematical works and in daily life. For administrative purposes, all manuscripts are collated under the name Lewis Carroll.

Summary
Saying that he hopes to get Sylvie and Bruno Concluded out by Christmas and that he is compiling a list of people to send copies of it to, based on his list of those who received copies of the first volume; asking if Volume I ever reached him; adding "There is no use in sending you Vol. II, if you have never seen Vol. 1"; writing that Volume I was mailed to Scott on December 12, 1889.
