The letter is signed C. L. Dodgson. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson adopted the pseudonym "Lewis Carroll" in 1856 when publishing a poem in "The Train." He used the pseudonym when publishing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and other works, but wrote under his given name, Charles Dodgson, when publishing mathematical works and in daily life. For administrative purposes, all manuscripts are collated under the name Lewis Carroll.

Summary
Asking whether she is able to travel alone to Paddington Station from the village of Goring (near Reading); saying that meeting her in Paddington would be more convenient for him than coming to get her in Goring; asking also whether next Saturday would be suitable; explaining that Jessie Bond and Rutland Barrington are appearing in a "Musical Duologue" in Eastbourne on Saturday evening and saying that, if the date does work for her, he would like to know soon, so that he can get tickets; requesting that she respond by telegram; discussing the dress code for the theater: "I think ladies dress for the stalls much as in London, & that hats are not allowed to be worn in the evening."
