A two-paragraph fragment from vol. 2, ch. 1 of The Virginians. The fragment is pasted to a an Oct. 17, 1883 autograph letter signed from Anne Ritchie to an unidentified recipient, who had requested a signature of Thackeray's; she sent the manuscript fragment instead.
