Notes
Water Gypsy was built in 1936 and was enrolled in the River Emergency Service on the Thames at the beginning of World War II. In June 1940, Sir Alan Herbert, who served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Division at Gallipoli and in France during World War I, joined the Naval Auxiliary Patrol as a Petty Officer and the White Ensign flew on Water Gypsy.
