A penciled note beneath the autograph transcription "This writing is by Alan Seeger / the American poet killed in / France."
A translation of this verse, attributed to Tom Brown (1662-1704) is "I do not love thee, Dr. Fell / The reason why I cannot tell / But this I know, and know full well / I do not love thee, Dr. Fell."
Addressed in pencil to "J.B. Yeats / 317 W. 29 St. / N. York."
The transcription is undated, however it is addressed to J.B. Yeats at 317 W. 29th Street in New York, an address Yeats had from 1907 to 1921.
