Summary
Thanking him for his "jolly verses in which even a thick wit, like me, can recognize most of the references & which are at any rate as good as 9/10ths of the work of King George's Own Poets; quoting Osbert Sitwell's verse 'God preserve the little man / He does the very best he can;" telling him that he is " a) commanding a detachment of 1300 mixed men of all regiments religions & categories, b) writing c) getting married; explaining further "a) I won't bother you with: but its the devil. b) is more poetry! I am understanding more definitely now what my powers & limits are. Hope you'll be satisfied with my next book. c) is on 23 Jan. St. James' Church, Picadilly to Nancy daughter William Nicholson the painter. Very young & beautiful & right minded & clever;" adding, on the verso and marked confidential in the left margin, a discussion of a review of one of his books in the Times by [Arthur] Clutton Brock, saying he "undertook to give me a nice one & then I think made a bad breakfast or too good a dinner the night before, & though I had a review which some years ago would have sold a copy or two of my book...it wasn't much use. Still he did his best;" adding that he hopes his "farm is flourishing like a green bay tree & that you find time to write.."
