Summary
Detailing terms of an apprenticeship in his bindery; offering to take her on in July for one year; stipulating that it would pay £100 for the year, the bindery would supply all materials and tools but the bound book would "...remain the prop'ty of the Bindery;" adding that daily attendance is required except for holidays and Saturday afternoons and "...above all I expect my pupils to devote themselves thoroughly to their work;" concluding with "I assume that you are proposing to learn for your own pleasure. If, however, you have your 'living' in view then I would advise you not to come to me. Bookbinding is not a remunerative craft--it is remunerative only at a very great cost & in consequence of some special gift which is perhaps rather born with one than acquired."
