According to Bruck Kawin (Faulkner and Film, 1977), Faulkner wrote a 26-page treatment in March 1937 based on Walter D. Edmonds' novel Drums Along the Mohawk. A 238-page screenplay based on this treatment was done (1937 July 3), unsigned, but possibly by Faulkner [not part of this collection]. Based on this screenplay and Faulkner's treatment, Sonya Levien and Walter Edmonds did treatments, on which Lamar Trotti based his screenplay. The film was released November 1939.
