Thanking him for some cognac; saying that his wife and child are ill and that he has no money to buy canvases or paints; writing that he is demoralized and starting to despair; mentioning that, in dire straits, he appealed to Monsieur [Henri] Cernuschi; asking Duret to forgive him for this; writing that he hopes to show Duret some paintings soon, if he can manage to finish them.
