Explaining his silence; saying that for a long time he had gotten nothing good done, but that he had at last started work on a number of canvases; saying he had wanted to finish them before writing Duret, but then bad weather intervened; adding that he is taking advantage of the rainy days to make a series of dining room panels for Durand-Ruel; writing in detail about a deal recently arranged between Durand-Ruel and Petit.
