Originally wrapped with a paper note in the hand of Sophia Hawthorne or Rose Hawthorne Lathrop that reads: "Daisies gathered on the field at Mossgiel where Burns plouged down the Daisy upon which he wrote the elegy-gathered by Nath Hawthorne 1847 June 28-Sunday p.m."
