Published, pp. 125-126, with four omissions: (1) [beginning] letters on which George has to pay postage must be charged to their general account [into p. 125: their trip by diligence from Rome to Lisieux]; (2) [p. 125, line 6 of letter, after Hills] their stop for breakfast [into p. 125: their arrival in Lisieux; sights of the town; next day's trip to Falaise]; (3) [p. 126, line 19, after Englishman] description of Falaise--its rock foundation, splendid heather, manufactories and tanneries, cotton nightcaps "exactly like Papa's," women's costumes, and overhead the castle of Robert Le Diable, of which John is making a pretty drawing. The primitive habits of the people--butchering in open street, public wash-tubs and use of sticks, etc. [into p. 126: their church attendance, today with inconceivably dirty priests but a very fine organ]; (4) she must stop because John is going to read the afternoon service. The other day Mr. Ruskin wrote that there was another Panic in the Railway Market but I hope my father sees his way a little clearer notwithstanding this." Do write.
