Millais, Euphemia Chalmers Gray, Lady, 1828-1897.
Description:
1 item (11 p.) ; 18.1 cm; 13.4 cm, + with envelope.
Summary:

Published pp. 109-110, with four omissions: (1) letter received; she has been very busy since Thursday; (2) hearing Grisi in Norma, she saw two of her old schoolfellows in the stalls; (3) on Friday she spent the whole day receiving visitors: in the morning Anne Taylor [apparently a former servant] and then the Hon. Mr. Liddel and a Mr. Vincent, to whom George showed the pictures; next Mrs. Baison and Mrs. [Glehn?, apparently from Perth]; finally Mrs. Potter and Carrie; (4) she has called on the Ewarts and Gardners and has written to the Gadesdens because she considers herself under obligations at least to the Ewarts and Gadesdens and possible to the Gardners. But she never thought of visiting the Flemings and Halberts. They are her father's acquaintances, not hers. Should she meet Mr. Halbet, she would treat him with the civility due a worthy person, but it is impossible for her to visit his family. No one could accuse her of vanity in the choice of her friends; she will ever regard those who have shown her kindness. But if a line is not drawn somewhere, people will com in flocks merely to get access to him and the society in which they are placed. His wishes must now regulate her conduct and she is sure he will never ask her to do anything wrong. "I hope you will see this." She is glad that the children are better.
