Summary
Published p. 102, with two omissions: (1) he would feel grateful to anyone who would give Andrew Richardson sound advice about a farm in which he will probably sink £900 and not be able to manage profitably. He is determined that Andrew will not leave any more of his money on any farm; (2) because of the "unprincipled proceeding of the Republic of France," he has lost £125 on the shares he has sold. If England maintains "its character for good faith and honesty, we shall make France look very small." He is sorry they have smallpox in the house.
