Summary
Published pp. 93-94, with two omissions: (1) good wishes for his birthday; she thinks that its being his last as a bachelor would make him melancholy. She is so busy taking care of the children and arranging a dinner for guests, with her mother away, that she has not had time to consider questions asked in his last letter. When they are married, she supposes that, like her father, he will tell her not to bother him about dishes and dinners, he being engaged on his third volume, but will ask her instead to mend his pens. Seriously, however, she hopes that his book will get on well, and she won't tease him while he is at work; (2) forgive her scrawl because of a bad pen and give her kindest wishes to his parents. His with "devoted love."
