Summary
Explaining why she disagrees with her mother's desire to have her go into mourning. It would give her pleasure to meet her mother's wish, but if she does, her mother must pay Miss Rutherford for a new bonnet. As her mother says, few people will be in town, but if she is to wear mourning, her mother should let her know before Friday so that she can get what she needs before leaving--this year everything in London being very dear. She herself is indifferent as to whether or not she wears mourning, but she can't afford to buy two bonnets and to pay for her new silk dress. Her mother should let her know what she wishes her to do. [P.S.] She has now settled with Mrs. Paget that she cannot go to Sutton, and on Thursday will have lunch with Carry Potter. Her old friend Mr. Watkins was very glad to see her the other day. On green-edged paper.
