Reporting on Effie's successful ending of the school year; she distinguished herself at the concert and was "extremely admired in appearance and manner"; she took prize in French, despite contending against girls "far superior to her in knowledge of the language," and so she must have been very industrious. Miss Ainsworth will take the three young ladies as far as Glasgow. She trusts Mrs. Gray will find Effie much improved in "appearance and carriage," and has stressed the importance of continuing alterations in her dresses; "the contraction in her chest will, if not guarded against, eventually produce great delicacy..."
