Summary
Giving an account of his trip to Germany with George [whom he is taking to school]. The Ruskins' kindness to him, George, and Phemy during their day [July 13] in London, Mr. Ruskin taking the children to the Tower, lending his carriage for the day, entertaining them at a family dinner with choice wines. Phemy has made most gratifying progress at school, including her ability to observe men and things. She planned to stay with the Ruskins until Saturday and then to spend a week with the Thomsons before going home. He and George spent the night at the Customs House Hotel, sailing at 7 the next morning. Their passage to Rotterdam, visit to the Hague, and plans for trip up the Rhine.
