Summary
Thanking him for his congratulations for May 10th. It passed "as few of my birthdays of late years have--We dined alone--" Mrs. Ruskin's rheumatism is worse: she "can scarcely come down to Table." He cannot "remain [at table?] being rather worse & my son has a severe cold & here we have but one sitting room--" Soon Mr. Domecq will be at Denmark Hill, "where I must give Dinners if at all able to do so--I was on Saturday 77--Dr. Ray of Dulurch says I may be thankful for sight hearing & general power at my time of life but Dr. Brown of Edinburgh considers my local disease a great misery & one of the most irritating & wearing out of the many maladies of our bodies but enough of this--"
