Noting that Mr. Harrison's letter on the death of Mr. Telford has arrived; John James Ruskin's memories of Mr. Telford as a business partner and tribute to him as a man. Is glad that Mr. Harrison has met Mr. Munro, the sculptor--about whom there is an extreme sweetness and simplicity. Has seen in newspapers reports of Mr. Harrison's Literary Fund proceedings--hurt by Dickens's meddling. His admiration for Mr. Gladstone. Signed of impending war in Germany--tonight 40,000 Bavarians moving toward Rhine, hotel full of officers, etc. They have just spent a week "in Prout's Nuremberg."
