Summary
Explaining the meter he used in [Christabel]; saying "The meter in which I have written it is the common 8 syllable verse, in technical phrase, the tetrameter Iambic acatalectic - the liberties besides of that of using a double rhyme, ad libitum are that of substituting an anapest or dactyl followed by a trochee instead of two Iambics, either in the first or latter half of the verse & sometimes of giving four anapests, sometimes four trochees, instead of the four Iambics - in brief - having no other law of metre, except that of confining myself to four strokes, or accentuated syllables;" quoting the first nine lines of Spenser's "Thenot" annotated with the marks of the metre.
