Thanking him and the Senatus of the University for their offer "which is most gratifying to me. That I dare not accept. I have a load of public & other work in front of me which would break down the health of any one less physically robust, & which is already up to the limit of Endurance. It would be simply impossible for me to find the time to write & deliver the lectures."
