Summary
Responding to a request by Miss MaLaren to answer a question asked to her by Knight concerning ballad verses quoted by Dr. John Brown in a letter to Principal Shairp; saying that the quoted lines were written by Miss Jeannie Watson "...in a little book called "Life in Our Village" published I think some fourteen or fifteen years ago - perhaps rather more;" adding, in a postscript, his thanks for the return of Coleridge's 'Biographia' which he had loaned him (see MA 9097.1).
