Summary
Referring to a matter involving a Mr. Clarke and a Mr. Lane and the "...reasons which occur to me why it will be improper for Mr. Gibbon to give his name in the Business to either party...I shall be very happy to act, as far as may be necessary, on the part of Mr. Gibbon, but my chief Object will be, as I before wrote, not to act at all - for the more I have thought of the Subject the more I am convinced that it will be his wisest part to stand neuter as much as possible. I shall however be open to hear all that Mr. Lane may think fit to urge why it is either wise, or incumbent upon Mr. Gibbon, to act otherwise."
