Summary
Half-length portrait of a young woman, seated, ironing. This portrait, painted by H.R. Morland, was mistakenly titled as a portrait of Maria, Countess of Coventry, née Gunning. Whether this was intentional by the artist (since images of the popular Gunning sisters would have received high interest) or a mistake at the time of sale, is unknown. It is possible that the woman in the portrait is a daughter of Morland. He made a series of these domestic-style portraits.
