Being a collection of essays by Wheaton directed to Francis Markoe, Corresponding Secretary of the National Institute; concerning a variety of topics including German Art & Artists, the Fine Arts of Denmark, the character of Frederick the Great, the abdication of Charles V, Leibnitz, Diderot, the history of the Reformation in Germany, an essay in memory of Thorwaldsen, the destruction of the liberties of Aragon by Philip II, the Prussian Scientific Expedition in Egypt and the Suez Canal, and writings on the Treaty with the Zoll Verein States.
