Summary
Regretting that "my efforts for it's [the Royal Academy's] benefit ... have all been fruitless, for excepting the classing and arranging the Library, nothing remains of the good I tried to effect, during seventeen years in Office"; accusing Cockerell, Eastlake, and Leslie of having "subverted the delicate and distinctive pride of the Institution, it's honor, devotion, and un-selfishness [un-selfishness underlined], that kept it distinct from other Establishments, where utility and profit were more considered than chivalric feeling, which did, and ought to characterize the Royal Academy"; and concluding that "Improvements are necessary in all Institutions, but Revolutions are not."
