Summary
Concerning arrangements to travel to Carlisle to attend a meeting and to see various places of interest in the company of his wife, daughter, and an "American lady"; mentioning that he has met Huxley "now and then", and that he bears him a grudge because "all the papers reported and commented on his intolerable speech at Birmingham", while nobody reported on Freeman's "tolerable" speech which he intended as its "antidote"; writing that Tennyson sent him his play "Harold" and adding some critical comments on the work.
