Summary
Regretting having missed seeing him before his (France's) departure for six weeks. He hasn't sent him his preface to [Theophile Gautier's] Cleopatre, because three-fourths of it has already appeared in "La Vie litteraire" [a literary column France wrote for the newspaper Le Temps], which should be enough for bibliophiles. "La Revue hebdomadaire" can't accept such prattle. France has finished writing (his novel) Le Lys rouge.
