Letter concerning the status and condition of artworks in Spain; acknowledging Monteagle's "graphic & lively ... description of this true 'Thing of Spain."; mentionng a "secret envoy" which he suspects was Queen Christina's, along with rumors he has heard "of certain copies having been substituted for originals"; expressing his wish that Morris Moore would "overhaul the Museo at Madrid" where "cleaning & repainting have done their worst." and referring to paintings by Raphael which have "also suffered in the wars", having been "beautified on a grand scale at Paris" and would have been accessioned had the export company been successful, adding "Meantime we may be well content with the cartoons."
