Collection of 13 letters written to George Eliot's friend and former schoolfellow at Miss Franklins' school in Coventry, chiefly concerning her daily life as her father's housekeeper at Griff and Foleshill, news of and visits with family and friends, expressions of friendship for Martha Jackson, her reading and her philosophical and religious reflections on various subjects, including ethics, science, theology, the arts, and their implications for realizinging a virtuous life.
