Summary
Informing him that G.H. Lewes's "Life and works of Goethe" is going to be published "on thoroughly satisfactory terms"; relating news of her daily life and activities, including her brother's plans to find a good investment for her "half year's income", her growing satisfaction with East Sheen, where she has been "writing hard, walking hard, reading Homer and science and rearing tadpoles", mentioning that she has been reading "Boswell's Johnson, or some such enjoyable book", before "subsiding into the dreary dryness of Whewell's History of the inductive sciences, and winding up with Heine's wit and imagination."; expressing her hope that he regards the supplement of the Leader (published June 16, 1855) as a "respectable turnout", adding that "Mr. [G.H.] Lewes wrote the articles on Sydney Smith, Owen Meredith, Newton's Boyhood, and How to live a hundred years and I wrote the one on Menander and Greek Comedy."
