Sending him a 2 page list of books he is interested in purchasing and requesting Payne to furnish him with details concerning availability of specific titles and condition of available copies; asking Payne he has obtained a "Heathian catalogue" for him. and if he has, to send it to him by coach; stating that he should have written last week, but "I thought you might have visited the Seat of Learning in its Hour of Splendid Bustle.", and adding facetiously, "If so, why did not they give you your Degree? or admit you a̲d̲ ̲e̲u̲n̲d̲e̲n̲, as presiding already in the Temple of Literature", and assuring him that no honors any university could give could increase the respect and regard in which he already holds him.
