Summary
Concerning Doyle's execution of some drawings to serve as wood engraved illustrations for an unspecified publication; requesting that Payne have the engraver, Mr. Green, provide him with blocks for the drawings, "As the engraver always supplies the wood-blocks for the drawings"; stating that, as he has already returned the specimen page for the publication, he has no way to determine the size of the blocks required, and suggesting that "the best way is to have the blocks, allowing for the usual margin of course, the exact size of a page and then I can make them larger or smaller according as the subject requires."
