Summary
Expressing his happiness that Gilfillan should think better of his poem "The snowdrop" than he himself ("I feared the frost of the subject had thickened my blood"); asking that Gilfillan forget that Dobell requested his opinion on The Review; expressing his regret at learning that "poor Brown" is another "on a long list of literary suicides", and his hope that the next letter will give "more cheering news of him." With a note at the top of page 1 of the letter announcing that "The last proof of the 'Roman' went back yesterday."
