Notes
Letter forms part of a collection of 11 letters from Charles Dickens to Rev. Ashton Burrow (MA 14018.1-11).
Name of the recipient written as "The Rev: Edward Burrowes R.N."; this was evidently a mistake on Dickens's part and Burrow's name is recorded correctly by Dickens in subsequent letters. Rev. Joseph Ashton Burrow was a co-principal of the naval school at North Grove House, Southsea. Cf. House, Storey, and Tillotson.
Written on stationery printed, "Tavistock House, / Tavistock Square, London W C."
Provenance
Bequest of Gordon N. Ray, 1987.
Summary
Asking Burrow to accept his son, Sydney Smith Dickens (1847-1872), as a student at North Grove House to prepare for examination for the Navy cadets.
