Recounting how some casts sent to him by Macnish were separately examined by Combe's nephew, Robert Cox, and Mr. James Simpson, with both men recording their own observations and producing "estimates of development" which were "almost identically alike", and sending Macnish copies of the observation written down by both men; thanking Macnish for a copy of the fourth edition of his book, The anatomy of drunkenness, and expressing his great appreciation for the book and his satisfaction at its continued success.
