Summary
Discussing his pamphlet "Essay on Baptism: With Some Remarks on the Doctrines of the Nicene Church, on which Puseyism is Built"; pointing out that the pamphlet was intended to address the subject of the Nicene Church only, and not the "Doctrines of Popery"; agreeing that he is wrong in referring to the Nicene Creed as a "doctrine" ("The Nicene Creed is a pure creed, and if that Creed may be said to contain the Doctrines of the Nicene Church I am wrong in using the latter word. If I had said Practices or Corruptions I should have been right"); recounting his theories concerning the introduction of the practice of celibacy into the Nicene Church in the 4th century and the church's subsequent corruption thereafter.
