Summary
Asking him to go to make corrections to an engraved portrait of Oliver Cromwell which Carlyle evidently commissioned to illustrate his book on Oliver Cromwell: "I wish you would proceed straightway to overhaul that Engraving of Cromwell: I saw a Proof of it the other day, in Heath's hands, which was not at all of a promising character! A most parboiled, meaningless object, and the features themselves incorrect. Your Sketch cannot resemble that. But the Sketch and the Plate are in some other hand than Heath's, who seemed to be only lending his name to the business;--and since that day I have taken cold, and am unable to go out upon the quest. If you be still in time, hasten to the rescue!".
