Sending his condolences for the death of his sister, Margaret Tirebuck ("When my memory goes back to the days when she was a girl & we were boys ... I feel that your loss is in a measure mine also, & that a part of my own life & of myself, has gone with her. I think she was quite the first of my girl friends & in that way I have very often thought of her, & I think it would be hard for me to realize how much influence for good her brave & loyal nature exercised upon all of us").
