Summary
Offering his condolences on the death of the recipient's father (i.e. Thomas Nugent, 6th Earl of Westmeath), advising him, in the management of his newly inherited estate in Ireland, to not become to dependent on income supplied by "the graces of the Crown"; outlining his apprehensions concerning the current state of Ireland and expressing his opinion that "the Catholicks are able to force all that they may chuse to obtain", and warning him of the unwillingness of the English to intervene on behalf of the Irish Protestants ("I once thought that the storm would be weathered till next summer, I now begin to think that it will explode in the winter, & if it does, be assured that the people of England will not hear of any proposition to engage in an attempt to resist them by a great force & a great expence & nothing else can effectually assist you") .
