Summary
Concerning some confusion over remittance of payment to Madame de Bury for a previous article (for the Literary gazette), and made, according to their records, via Mr. Cooke; thanking her for her "admirable letters", remarking that the "scribe affair was a contre-temps", and adding "it is not often however that the other writer takes one of your topics, & when it happens that he does ... I excise his parallel passage."; assuring her that anything she says privately will always be "carefully heeded", and that should she need anything done for her in England, she need only say so; writing that "The paper is doing very well. I have got Ruskin into an art controversy this week. How do you like (that is do you see) Punch's black slave & French ouvrier - 'men & brothers.'"
