Summary
Writing his publisher to express his gratitude for their handling of his poem "Ellen Gray, or, The dead maiden's curse", published pseudonymously in 1823 by "the late Dr. Archibald Macleod"; thanking him for removing some controversial references in his work based upon misinformation published in the Edinburgh review regarding the Church of England, with further reference to an article previously published in the same publication by Sydney Smith regarding the English public schools; imploring him to not reveal his name as the author of "Ellen Gray", and requesting that he send a copy of the book to Sir Walter Scott.
