Summary
Concerning Manvell's abridgment of Bottomley's play "Marsaili's Weeping" for the work's premiere production at Stratford; accepting his apology for making the cuts to his text without giving him "an opportunity to say whether what remained represented my intentions or not, and whether I should be contented for the public to judge me on the remnant"; asking that he be allowed to see his prompt copy of the play; attributing the production's lack of success at Stratford to the commercial tastes of the judge appointed to the festival ("The man from the commercial theatre never realises that the community drama is working toward something different, and his judgments can be substantial set-backs"); noting that Mr. [Francis] Sladen-Smith has praised the production to him personally and requesting that he be sent copies of the programmes.
