Summary
Concerning the "orthodoxy" of the belief in witchcraft during the 17th century as it is depicted in his novel Lorna Doone, i.e. "I am glad to find you so ready to combat all heterodoxy ... neverthelass you must allow me (tho' not identified with John Ridd, any more than I am 6 ft 8 in in stature) to assert that all who believe St. Paul must also believe in witchcraft ... I do not of course; but in the middle of the 17th century, almost every one did so".
