Summary
Informing him that his appointments following the death of Captain Stanley have been confirmed, but that Commander Rice is not qualified to take an appointment in a ship of the line and suggesting that he apply for his son, and should objections be raised, to give the position to the first lieutenant , in hopes that in return his son will be given a ship "for your station"; closing with the observation that "Captain Erskine cannot read his instructions - it is very evident that he don't understand them".
