Requesting permission to see a volume of the Transactions of the Scottish Society of Antiquaries containing an article on the discovery and re-interment of the remains of King Robert Bruce; noting that he has written with the same request to the Astor library, but that they do not lend books and reflecting on he wisdom of such a policy given the various volumes that he himself has lent and never gotten returned to him.
