Summary
Letter by James Ballantyne acting as Sir Walter Scott's agent outlining a proposed agreement between "the author of Waverley, Kenilworth, The Pirate, Fortunes of Nigel, etc." and Archibald Constable & Co., contracting for the publication of Scott's new novel Peveril of the peak and three additional works of fiction (i.e. Quentin Durward, St. Ronan's Well, and Redgauntlet); stating terms of publication and payment. With a copy of Constable's reply on page three, dated Edinburgh, 14 October 1822, agreeing to the terms of Ballantyne's offer, and signed "A. Constable".
