Summary
Responding to a request on behalf of the recipient's son who is studying logic for his examination at Oxford; stating that he has little to recommend his beyond trusting to his tutors and advisers, being a "thorough stranger ... to the course of examinations at Oxford"; advising him only that he apply himself to his studies without troubling himself as to their "supposed utility or inutility" and going on to say "A certain interest and meaning belong to all the authors and systems; and first point is to get at that; afterwards he will be able to judge of their respective worth."
