Summary
Thanking him for his letter, which reminded her of her visit to Dundee; writing "I fully agree with you, that the working classes are the sinews of the social fabric, and I feel interested in them in all countries"; adding that she regrets that she was not able to meet with the working men of Dundee and Aberdeen, and that she could not spend more time with the Scottish people in general; saying that she reads with much concern of the suffering of the working classes in England and Scotland this winter and asking about the situation in Dundee; writing on American politics: "They are agitating now in Congress for the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, a movement which will extend slavery over all the territories of the United States. But though times look so dark, I still hope that God will make truth and right to prevail"; sending greetings to his wife and family, to other mutual acquaintances, and to "those kind friends of the Dundee Anti-Slavery Society, whom I met at your house."
